Pattern Notes

Instructions are written for smallest size, with larger sizes in parentheses. When only 1 number is given, it applies to all sizes.
Right and left mittens and caps are worked in the same way; hence, only one set of instructions is given.

Magic Loop Method
Cast on number of sts from the pattern and slip the sts into the flexible cable.
Divide the sts into 2 even groups and slide the stitches toward the corresponding needle tips, with the needle ends pointing to the right side, and making sure the working yarn is hanging from the back needle (needle 2). The front needle (needle 1) will work first.
* Pull needle 2 out until you have enough slack to work all sts on needle 1; let the sts on needle 2 slide down the cable. Work all sts in needle 1 and turn the needle to face the right side again. Now the needle 1 sts are in the needle 2 position and sts from needle 2 are in the needle 1 position.
Slide the needle 2 sts (now in needle 1 position) back to the tip of the needle and pull the back needle to work the sts on the front needle; repeat from * for technique.

Special Stitch Abbreviations
sk2psso – slip 1, k2tog and pass slipped st over
k3tog tbl – knit 3 together through back loop

FINISHING

Weave in all ends. Lay the main mitten on a flat surface, place the mitten cap upside down with mitten cap ribbing on top. Position the mitten cap on top of the main mitten 2 rows below the main mitten top ribbing. Use tapestry needle, sew the top of the back portion of the mitten cap onto the mitten, leaving the front portion (palm side) of the mitten cap open. Sew a button in the center of the main mitten where the mitten cap’s top edge lays when open; then make a button loop in the center of the top of the mitten cap for enclosing. The button is used to secure the position of the mitten cap when it is not in use.
