Foamies

Easy
By Carey Huffman

Bath time! And it just seems silly to me to have a washcloths and bath toys. Why not make them one and the same? The cotton yarn is soft on baby's skin but the bobbles really help to scrub away that mysterious sticky green stuff you keep finding behind your kid's ears.

SIZE

Approximately 4.5 inches in diameter

MATERIALS

Foamies can be made with small amounts of any sport weight cotton yarn. The photographed foamies were made from the following the yarns:

Yellow Foamie:

Omega Sinfonia [100% mercerized cotton, 218 yards/199 meters per 3.53 ounce/100 gram skein]; [MC] #0830 Amarillo Vivo
Patons Grace [100% mercerized cotton, 136 yards/124 meters per 1.76 ounce/50 gram skein]; #62005 Snow [CC]
Pink Foamie:
Patons Grace [100% mercerized cotton, 136 yards/124 meters per 1.76 ounce/ 50 gram skein]; #62437 Rose [MC]
Patons Grace [100% mercerized cotton, 136 yards/124 meters per 1.76 ounce/50 gram skein]; #62005 Snow [CC]

US D-3 (3.25 mm) hook

NOTIONS

Split ring marker
Polyester stuffing
Yarn needle
For yellow only: 12 mm safety eyes
For pink only: 5 mm safety eyes and black embroidery floss
For green only: black embroidery floss

GAUGE

19 sc = 4 inches
NOTE: Perfect gauge is not vital, however, stitches need to be tighter than what is normally recommended for garments in order to hold stuffing.

PATTERN NOTES

Unless otherwise noted, all pieces are worked in spiral rounds amigurumi style. Always work first stitch of new round into the first stitch of of the previous round. Do not turn work. Use a split ring marker to keep track of the first stitch of each round.

SPECIAL STITCHES

Double Ring (Amigurumi) Start: Tie a slip knot around your crochet hook leaving a 10-inch tail. Wrap the tail end of the yarn around 2 fingers directly below the hook to form two large loops. Sc the number of times indicated in the pattern through both loops placing a marker in the last st from hook. Pull both loops tight. These stitches are your first round.
Make Bobble (mb): Work 5 half double crochet in next sc; take the hook out of the working loop, insert it in the top of the first stitch. Then, pick up the working loop again drawing it through. Chain 1 to close the bobble.
Single Crochet 2 Stitches together (sc2tog): (Insert hook in next st and pull up a loop) twice, yo and draw through all 3 loops on hook (counts as one sc).
