Kids love robots but they tend to not be very cuddly. Leia on the other hand is soft enough to sleep with at night but strong enough to do whatever robots do during the day.

Pattern Notes

This pattern uses American crochet terminology.

Unless otherwise noted, all pieces are worked in spiral rounds, amigurumi style. Always work first stitch of new round in the first stitch of the previous round. Do not turn work. Use a split ring marker to keep track of the first stitch of each round.

Double Ring (Amigurumi) Start: Tie a slip knot around your crochet hook leaving a 10-inch tail. Wrap the tail end of the yarn around 2 fingers directly below the hook to form two large loops. Sc the number of times indicated in the pattern through both loops, placing a marker in the last st from hook. Pull both loops tight. These stitches form your first round.

INSTRUCTIONS

Head

Rnd 1: In MC and using double ring start, 6 sc in double ring.
Rnd 2: 2 Sc in each sc around: 12 sc.
Rnd 3: * Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around: 18 sc.
Rnd 4: * Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around: 24 sc.
Rnd 5: * Sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around: 30 sc.
Rnd 6: * Sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around: 36 sc.
Rnd 7: * Sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around: 42 sc.
Rnd 8: * Sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around: 48 sc.
Rnd 9: * Sc in next 7 sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around: 54 sc.
Rnds 10-21: Sc in each sc around.
Rnd 22: Sc in next sc, ch 2, skip next 2 sc, sc in each sc around.

Place a split ring marker or safety pin in working loop to prevent unraveling. Do not break yarn.
Flatten out head horizontally with the 2-stitch gap centered across the bottom edge. With fabric marker mark placement for left eye in a space between the 11th and the 12th rows about half way between the top and bottom edge of the head. Make right eye mark level with the left between the 2nd and 3rd row from the edge. Once you are happy that the eye marks are level, poke shafts of safety eyes through the outside of the marked spaces and snap backs on. Starting from the inside, poke male end of the doll joint through the 2-stitch gap. Lightly stuff head.

Rnd 35: * Sc in next 7 sc, sc2tog; repeat from * around: 48 sc.
Rnd 36: * Sc in next 6 sc, sc2tog; repeat from * around: 42 sc.
Rnd 37: * Sc in next 5 sc, sc2tog; repeat from * around: 36 sc.
Rnd 38: * Sc in next 4 sc, sc2tog; repeat from * around: 30 sc.
Rnd 39: * Sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog; repeat from * around: 24 sc. Add stuffing to head at this point if needed.
Rnd 40: * Sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog; repeat from * around: 18 sts.
Rnd 41: * Sc in next sc, sc2tog; repeat from * around: 12 sts.
Rnd 42: Sc2tog around: 6 sc.
Break yarn leaving a 6 inch tail. Weave yarn tail through remaining sc and pull tightly to close hole. Set aside.

Antenna (make 2)

Rnd 1: In CC1 and using double ring start, 6 sc in double ring.
Rnd 2: 2 Sc in each sc around: 12 sc.
Rnds 3-5: Sc in each sc around.
Rnd 6: * Working in front loops only, sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around: 18 sc.
Rnd 7: * Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around: 24 sc.
Rnds 8-11: Sc in each sc around.
Slip st in next sc. Break yarn leaving a 12 inch tail. Set aside.

In CC2 ch 10; 2 sc in second chain from hook, * sc in next 2 chs, 2 sc in next ch; repeat from * once more, sc in next 2 chs: 12 sc.
Break yarn. With yarn tail sew end onto the center of Rnd 1 of the other section of the robot antenna.

Stuff antenna and sew to side of head. Repeat for second antenna.

Heals/Toes (make 4)

Rnd 1: In CC1 and using double ring start, 6 sc in double ring.
Rnd 2: 2 Sc in each sc around: 12 sc.
Rnd 3: * Sc in next 2 sc, (sc, hdc, sc) in next sc; repeat from * around: 20 sts.
Rnd 4: Sc in next 3 sc, * (sc, hdc, sc) in next hdc, sc in next 4 sc; repeat from * twice, (sc, hdc, sc) in next hdc, sc in next sc: 28 sts.
Rnd 5: Sc in next 4 sc, * (sc, hdc, sc) in next hdc, sc in next 6 sc; repeat from * twice, (sc, hdc, sc) in next hdc, sc in next 2 sc: 36 sts.
Slip st in next sc, break yarn and set aside.

Feet (make 2)

In CC1 ch 36.
Rnd 1: Sc in first ch to form a ring, being careful not to twist, place marker in first stitch, sc in next 35 chs: 36 sc.
Rnds 2-25: Sc in each sc around
Rnd 26: Align working edge with the edge of one of the heal/toe pieces you set aside earlier. In CC2 sc through both the first sc on Rnd 25 and the corresponding st from the edge of the foot piece. Continue to sc through both layers around. Slip st in the first st of the CC2 round. Break yarn.
Stuff Foot.

Align beginning ch of the foot with the edge of a heal/toe piece so that the corners are in the same place as the heal/toe already attached so the foot can sit flat. With CC2, pull up a loop and sc through both the first chain stitch the foot and the corresponding st from the edge of the remaining foot piece. Continue to sc through both layers around. Slip st in the first st of the CC2 round. Break yarn. Set aside.

Legs (make 2)

In MC ch 12.
Rnd 1: Sc in first ch to form a ring being careful not to twist, place marker in first st, sc in next 11 chs.
Rnd 2: Sc in each sc around.
Rnds 3 and 4: In CC1 sc in each sc around. Do not break yarn.
Rnds 5 and 6: In MC sc in each sc around. Do not break yarn.
Rnds 7-10: Repeat Rnds 3-6.
Rnds 11-12: In CC1 sc in each sc around.
Break both yarns. With MC, sew MC end of the leg to the top of the foot one row over from the CC2 row. Stuff legs very firmly.

Arms (make 2)

Rnd 1: In CC1 and using double ring start, 6 sc in double ring.
Rnd 2: 2 Sc in each sc around: 12 sc.
Rnd 3: * Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around: 18 sc.
Rnds 4-6: Sc in each sc around.
Rnd 7: * Sc in next sc, sc2tog; repeat from * around: 12 sc. Break yarn.
Rnds 8 and 9: In MC sc in each sc around. Do not break yarn.
Rnds 10 and 11: In CC2 sc in each sc around. Do not break yarn.
Rnds 12-19: Repeat Rnds 8-11 twice. 
Sl st in next sc, break both yarns. Stuff arm firmly up to the last stripe.
Repeat for second arm.

Rnd 1: In MC ch 6, sl st in first chain to form a ring.
Rnd 1: 12 Sc in ring placing split ring marker in first st: 12 sc.
Rnd 2: 2 Sc in each sc around: 12 sc.
Rnd 3: * Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around: 18 sc.
Rnd 4: * Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around: 24 sc.
Rnd 5: * Sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around: 30 sc.
Rnd 6: * Sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around: 36 sc.
Rnd 7: * Sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around: 42 sc.
Rnd 8: * Sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around: 48 sc.
Rnd 9:  *Take one of the arms and fold the top edge in half with the color jog centered in the front facing you (later the color jog will be hidden) so that you have 6 sts on each side. Align edge of the arm, color jog facing out, with the edge of the body with the arm on the outside. Sc through the first sc on the front of the arm, the back of the arm, and the next body sc. Continue to sc through all 3 layers across the next 5 sc. Sc in next 18 sts of the body; repeat from * once more.
Rnds 10-24: Sc in each st around.
Starting from the outside, place male end of doll joint from the head through the hole in the top of the body. Slide on washer and snap on the back. Lightly stuff body.
Rnd 25: * Sc in next 6 sc, sc2tog; repeat from * around: 42 sc.
Rnd 26: * Sc in next 5 sc, sc2tog; repeat from * around: 36 sc.
Rnd 27: * Sc in next 4 sc, sc2tog; repeat from * around: 30 sc.
Rnd 28: * Sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog; repeat from * around: 24 sc.
Rnd 29: * Sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog; repeat from * around: 18 sc. Push stuffing down and add plastic pellets to top.
Rnd 30: * Sc in next sc, sc2tog; repeat from * around: 12 sc.
Rnd 31: Sc2tog around: 6 sc.
Break yarn leaving a 6 inch tail. Top off pellets if needed. With yarn tail sew closed the small hole on the bottom of the body.

FINISHING

With CC3 sew the top of the legs onto the bottom of the body. Weave in all ends.
