White Caps

By Daniela Nii
Intermediate

The beach is calling and with this hoodie design, you can take the beach and ocean right with you.
The simple chevron pattern makes for great waves, highlighted by a couple of garter stitch rows that remind me of the wave’s foam when the winds get gusty and the waves break and roll up onto the beach.

Pattern Notes

Hoodie is worked from the bottom up in rounds up to the armholes. Then the work is split into fronts and back and continued back and forth. Shoulders are closed with the 3-needle bind off. Hood is worked on set aside sts from the fronts and back and closed with the 3-needle bind off at the top. Sleeves are worked in the round from the cuff towards the shoulder and sewn in.

Special Abbreviations and Stitches

3-Needle Bind off: Place stitches to be joined on two needles, holding them together with the right sides facing. If you’d like a decorative ridge on the right side of the garment, hold the wrong sides together. Using a third needle, knit the first stitch from each needle together as one stitch. * Knit next stitch on each needle in the same way. Pass the first stitch over the second stitch. Repeat from * until one stitch remains on the third needle. Cut yarn and pull the tail through the last stitch.
LRI - Left raised increase: Work to and including the stitch for which the increase will fall on the left side. Insert the left needle from the front to the back into the left edge of the stitch in the row below. Knit the picked-up stitch from the row below. Here is a helpful tutorial.
RRI - Right raised increase: Work to the stitch for which the increase will fall on the right side. Insert the right needle from the front to the back into the right edge of the stitch in the row below. Knit the picked-up stitch from the row below and the next stitch on the needle.
