Olive

By Laura Brown
Easy

Olive is a simple sweater with a cute ruffle that can easily be dressed up for a special occasion, but will also work well dressed down as an everyday sweater.  In our home we have a very limited amount of space, so versatility in our articles of clothing is a must.  Anything that doesn’t get a lot of wear will not take up space in our home!  Olive definitely earns its hanger in the closet.

Pattern Notes

This top is worked seamlessly from the bottom up.  The bottom ruffle is knitted first and these stitches are cast off.  The body stitches are then picked up from the bottom ruffle.  In a similar way, the sleeve ruffles are knit, cast off and then the stitches are picked up for the yoke.  Casting off the ruffle stitches creates visual interest, but it also makes those areas of the sweater very inelastic, so please make note of this inelasticity when choosing a size. There is a large difference in the number of stitches you will be working in one section to the next.  Try to find a circular needle length that works best for you in each section.

Knitting in the round, i-cord bind-off, applied i-cord, basic crochet (chain stitch), short rows
