Thorgal

Thorgal is inspired by the traditional yoke sweaters but I wanted to make a more modern looking version with texture while following the traditional construction. The name of the sweater comes from the Norse god Thor, as a reference to the Nordic origin of yoke sweaters.

As a mother of boys, I find that there are many more fun knitting patterns for girls than for boys. This is why I wanted the design to be suitable for both boys and girls and I think the color choice will allow to make it boy-ish or girly, as desired.

Start by knitting the body up to the underarm, then knit the sleeves. All three will be joined to form the yoke.

Skills Required

Knitting in the round, Kitchener stitch, K2tog, P2tog

Body

With Color A, cast on 96 [104, 112, 120, 128, 136] sts.
Being careful not to twist, join in the rnd, placing st marker to mark the beginning of the rnd.

Rnd 1: Knit around.
Rnd 2: Purl around.
Rnds 3-6: Repeat Rnds 1 and 2, twice.
Rnds 7 and 8: Knit around; at the end of Rnd 8, cut Color A.

Wavy Pattern
Note: When instructed to slip a stitch/stitches, always slip the stitch(es) purlwise with yarn in back.
Rnd 1: With Color B, *sl3, k1; repeat from * around.
Rnd 2: K1, sl1, *k3, sl1; repeat from * around to last 2 sts, k2.

Rnds 5-8: With Color C, repeat Rnds 1-4; at the end of Rnd 8, cut Color C.
Rnds 9 and 10: With Color D, repeat Rnds 1 and 2.

From this point on, keep knitting with color D, knitting every rnd until Body measures 8 [9, 10, 11, 11½, 12] inches from cast on edge. Set aside and knit the sleeves.

Sleeves (make 2)
With Color A, cast on 36 [40, 44, 48, 52, 56] sts.
Work same as Body until Sleeve measures 3 [3½, 4, 4¼, 4½, 5] inches from cast on edge.

Place 4 [6, 6, 8, 8, 10] sts of the mid-underarm on a piece of scrap yarn or a st holder, you now have 32 [34, 38, 40, 44, 46] sts

Corinne's passion for yarn started around age 8 when she started to knit. Today, she especially loves to design with sock yarn. Although French, she lives in Germany with her English partner and their two boys, where she can fully put her second passion, languages, to the test. Her patterns can be found on Ravelry on the Corinne's Knits designer page or on her blog.
