Pretty as a Package

My littlest daughter has been surrounded by, and even obsessed with yarn since she was tiny. When a new box of yarn arrived in the mail, she was sure it was her yarn. When freshly dyed wool emerged from the pot, she wanted to know what I was going to make for her.

Since a momma cannot resist the yearnings of a little girl for lovely, yarny things, I willingly make them for her. That is how this little hat came to be. My littlest girlie saw a picture of a hat with a bow, and she wanted it. Of course, I set out to make this little hat, but it needed to have the personality of my girlie written on it.

She is quite delightful and quite memorable with her giant cartoon character eyes and long lashes to match, and so this hat needed some of her oversized charm. When I presented the hat to my girlie, her eyes lit up. Then she put it on. She was as pretty as a package adorned with a bow!

FINISHING

Scrunch bow together in the center. Wrap the long side of tie around the scrunched area and sew the narrow ends of the tie together. Now you have a finished bow.

Position the bow on desired area of hat, keeping in mind whether you would like the ends of the bow to fall above edge of brim or to hang a bit below the edge. Still using the yarn tail, sew bow onto hat. Be sure that you secure the bow as well as the tie. Tack the bow to hat, approximately 1 inch from center of bow on each side.
